Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder leading to high blood sugar levels. It is mainly of 2 types: Type 1 due to destruction of insulin-producing cells in the pancreas and Type 2 due to less insulin production or poor cellular response to insulin. Type 2 is more common and results in excess sugar circulating in the blood. Common symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, blurred vision, and numbness in hands & feet. If untreated, multiple organs can suffer damage. Special Instruction: Sample preparation depends on glucose test selected. Fasting sample requires minimum 8 hours fasting. Post-prandial sample is collected 2 hours after starting a meal. No restriction for random sample.
